Many still consider "under-the-table" salaries advantageous, but in reality, they deprive employees of social guarantees, stability, and confidence in the future. Employers using such schemes evade taxes and insurance contributions, and it is the employees who suffer first and foremost. The lack of official income results in unpaid sick leave and vacations, denial of overtime pay, problems upon dismissal, a meager future pension, as well as the inability to receive tax deductions, social benefits for injuries, or bank loans for the required amount.

In Tatarstan, interdepartmental commissions are actively fighting this problem. In the first five months of 2026, salary legalization brought an additional 204 million rubles in personal income tax and 706 million rubles in insurance contributions to the regional budget, and 85% of employers who previously paid below the industry average increased payments to their employees after being heard by the commissions.

You can check whether your employer is paying taxes through the "Taxpayer Personal Account" service on the Federal Tax Service website in the "Income" section. If your employer refuses to make your salary "white," you have the right to contact the court, the prosecutor's office, the State Labor Inspectorate, or the tax office. Additional questions can be asked by calling the Office of the Federal Tax Service for the Republic of Tatarstan: 8 (843) 528-09-90 (ext. 13-94) – they will provide consultation on issues of informal employment.
