A flood is a sudden rise in water levels due to melting snow, rain, or dam failure. It is important to know how to act when there is a threat of flooding and during the flood itself. If there is a threat of a flood, listen to information and do not tie up the phone line, warn your neighbors, help children and the elderly, and find out the assembly point for evacuation. Collect your documents in a waterproof bag, along with belongings, food, and medicine; turn off electricity and gas, and move valuables to upper floors or shelves.
In a sudden flooding zone, do not panic, collect the essentials, and help the vulnerable. When leaving your home, turn off gas and electricity, and close windows and doors. Move to an upper floor or attic, wait for help on high ground, and signal to rescuers. Provide assistance to victims: change them into dry clothes, warm them up, and perform artificial respiration if necessary. If you find yourself in the water, remove heavy clothing, use floating objects, and do not overload boats.
