Large-scale ecological rehabilitation of the Melekesska River continues in Naberezhnye Chelny within the framework of the federal project «Water of Russia» of the national project «Ecological Well-being». The readiness of the river channel clearing works is 35 percent; the comprehensive improvement of the ecological situation and living conditions will in the future affect all residents of the half-million city.

This year, 168.6 million rubles of federal subventions have been allocated for the implementation of this stage. The works are being carried out systematically and in strict accordance with the approved schedule. Currently, two units of floating equipment (dredgers) and six excavators are involved at the site. A team of 15 specialized specialists is participating in the process.

The main scope of work at this stage is aimed at extracting bottom sediments. In parallel, works are underway on the construction and operation of two reclamation maps. These structures are special areas where extracted bottom sediments are pumped for their subsequent settling, dewatering and reclamation in strict accordance with environmental standards.

Upon completion of the second stage of ecological rehabilitation, 3.1 km of the river channel will be fully cleared. This will make it possible to restore the natural hydrodynamics of the water body, improve water quality and significantly increase the comfort of the urban environment for all residents of Naberezhnye Chelny.

It is worth noting that this is already the second stage of the comprehensive rehabilitation of the river. The first stage was successfully completed in 2022, during which 1.5 km of the channel was cleared. The implementation of the second stage is scheduled until 2027, and the total project financing amounts to 318.8 million rubles, which guarantees a systematic and long-term approach to solving the region's environmental challenges.
