In the near future, Naberezhnye Chelny will be enriched with two new sports facilities. At a meeting of the final board, the Minister of Sports of Tatarstan, Vladimir Leonov, confirmed: "We are discussing the construction of a volleyball center and another ice palace." According to him, the city will receive both facilities during the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the city and the 50th anniversary of the release of the first KAMAZ truck. The Volleyball Center will be located in the 36th complex. The project, previously successfully implemented in Buinsk, received approval from the state expert review back in 2023. It will be a two-story building with an area of over 4,000 square meters. Inside, there will be three volleyball courts, mini-football and basketball courts, a gym, and a spectator hall. The construction cost is estimated at 500 million rubles, and funding sources are currently being worked out. The new Ice Palace is planned to be built in the densely populated Zamelekesye microdistrict with the support of the Head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. Mayor Nail Magdeev stated that the project is being implemented together with a deputy of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan and five-time Gagarin Cup winner, Danis Zaripov — "we want more children to be involved in figure skating and hockey." Simultaneously, 103 million rubles have been allocated from the republican budget for major repairs of the existing Ice Palace of the "Chelny" sports school in the ZYaB settlement. The work includes roof repairs, finishing, and general construction work. Completion is scheduled for December 1, 2026.
